The Nordic Society for Veterinary Epidemiology (NOSOVE) is an informal organization with the vision of advancing veterinary epidemiology. The volunteering board aim to fulfill the vision by providing courses and opportunities to socialise and strengthen the network among post graduate students, researchers and others with an interest in epidemiology. Events are presented through the society network (blogspot).
NOSOVE started in 1988 as a collaboration between the Nordic countries Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden, and has expanded to include the Baltic countries, but welcome members and participants from all countries.

Vacancy: Scientific Modeller, Animal & Plant Health Agency, Weybridge, Surrey, UK

This post will provide scientific programming and mathematical modelling within the Department of Epidemiological Sciences and across the Animal & Plant Health Agency (APHA). It is part of a small team within the Biomathematics and Risk Research group which provides advanced modelling, software development and scientific computing within the Agency. The job holder will help develop and support important applications including simulation models of animal disease spread, surveillance and management; transformation and classification of molecular biology data; and estimation of epidemiological parameters. The outputs from this work have had major impacts on animal disease control in the UK and its consequences.
The job holder will be expected to acquire and apply advanced expertise in computer programming, modelling, algorithm development, mathematics, and data manipulation, with careful attention to quality assurance approaches such as test-driven development. They must work with epidemiologists, scientists, veterinary advisors and policy advisors effectively and with enthusiasm, communicating clearly to work through complex issues and understanding a wide range of issues related to animal disease.
A degree in a Scientific, Computing or Numeric discipline is essential.
Experience of developing software for mathematical models or algorithms is essential.
Training or experience in Epidemiology or Biology is desirable.
Salary range: £29,970 - £34,760 per annum

Open position: Teaching Fellow in Veterinary Public Health

Applications are invited for the role of teaching fellow in Veterinary Public Health, available from 1 August 2014 or as soon as possible thereafter.
The role is a teaching post with a remit to develop veterinary public health teaching in the Department in conjunction with the Senior Lecturer in Veterinary Public Health (VPH). The post-holder’s goal will be to drive the design and implementation of a new learning environment for VPH in Cambridge, building on the existing programme with its extensive government and industry links and taking advantage of the on-going world class, international VPH research in the Department.
The post-holder will oversee VPH teaching as required under RCVS and EAEVE guidance (including epidemiology, transboundary epizootic diseases, zoonotic and food-borne diseases, emerging and re-emerging diseases, food hygiene and food technology), integrating as far as possible with other related subjects including Farm Animal Studies. This challenging role will also aim to support a new generation of Cambridge veterinary graduates to be better equipped to participate effectively in One Health issues at an international level.
The successful applicant will participate with other academic staff (including 2 diplomats of the European College of Veterinary Public Health), in the teaching of Veterinary Public Health to undergraduates in the Department, through the medium of lectures, practicals, abattoir visits, seminars and small group teaching. This will include responsibility for specified areas of veterinary public health, with the post-holder taking responsibility for food hygiene and food technology teaching for example. In addition, s/he will develop innovative approaches to the teaching of Veterinary Public Health; contribute to the integration of Farm Animal teaching with Veterinary Public Health, especially in relation to population medicine / epidemiology; contribute to the training of Clinical Training Scholars (Interns and Residents); undertake any other duties in connection with the teaching of Veterinary Public Health as are specified from time to time by the Head of Department or a person nominated by the Head of Department.
It is essential that the successful applicant should have a veterinary degree registerable with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons; have attained or be eligible to sit the forthcoming examinations for the European or American Diploma in Veterinary Public Health, or should have attained or be registered for an RCVS Certificate in Veterinary Public Health.
It is desirable that the successful applicant should have an Official Veterinarian qualification, or be prepared to take this qualification when in post; experience of veterinary public health activities in government, overseas, or industry-related contexts; some undergraduate teaching experience (for example, supervision of veterinary students on EMS).
